What is the best DJI drone? There will be many answers to that question and each will be as valid as the other. However, it will really come down to what you want to do with the drone and if you are looking to use it for a commercial reason or just looking to have some fun with these flying robots.
Drones are becoming increasingly more popular lately. No matter if you want a drone for entertainment or another purpose, the selection of different models is truly astonishing. If you are a regular reader of my website you will know that I greatly admire the DJI brand and their range of drones. They are by far the leading manufacturers of consumer drones by a wide margin and in this article, I list the best DJI drones on the market.
DJI is a name that stands out on the drone market and their products are well known for their consistent quality. But, which DJI drones are considered to be the best ones? There’s a wide variety of drones to choose from and it’s not easy to choose the best ones.
So the list below is my personal favourite DJI drones, they are not the most powerful DJI drones but in my opinion, they are the best DJI drones for consumers.
Let’s get started!
Best DJI Drones
#1. Mavic Pro
The Mavic Pro, is undoubtedly one of the best products that DJI has ever made and it’s a prototype of what a modern drone should look like in 2018.
The unit itself is fairly small but immensely powerful at the same time. The remote control is extremely flexible and it uses the latest OcuSync transmission technology that allows you to control your drone from just about any place! The overall range is 7km (4.3 mi.) which is well above the accepted minimum.
Unlike many conventional drones, the Mavic Pro uses special FlightAutonomy technology to detect any obstacles that could get in its way. This kind of protection is ideal as you can easily dodge any object along the way and the risk of accidents is minimal.
Despite its small size, the Mavic Pro has an uptime of nearly 30 minutes and the maximum distance is 13 km (8 mi.). One would expect this kind of performance from a bigger drone but, thanks to high-efficiency motors of the Mavic Pro, this little robot can easily compete with much bigger “beasts”! As for the video output, the Mavic Pro comes with a 4K camera that is locked at 30 fps. All footage is in 4K resolution and HD quality. No matter where your drone is going, you can be sure that every recording will be top-notch!
If you want a small but powerful drone, you should absolutely give this one a try! Definitely one of the best DJI drones on the market.
#2. DJI Mavic Pro 2
The Mavic Pro 2 is probably the best consumer drone on the market, its the successor to the hugely popular Mavic Pro and comes with many upgraded features.
Design-wise, it looks pretty much the same as its predecessor, that’s not a bad thing because the Mavic Pro is still one of the best-designed consumer drones. There are two versions of the DJI Mavic Pro 2 and the difference is mainly between the camera on each drone.
The Mavic 2 Pro comes with a camera built by Hasselblad, a Swedish company specialising in cameras for the professionals. It comes with a 20MP 1″ CMOS Sensor and can record in 4K@30fps and stream live video footage in full 1080p resolution.
While the Mavic 2 Zoom comes with a 12MP 1/2.3″ Sensor and can also record in 4K@30fps. It also has a 2*optical zoom with little loss in quality and both drones have a flight time of 31 minutes.
Other features of both drones include intelligent flight modes, good wind resistance, obstacle avoidance technology and image tracking technology.
#3. DJI Mavic Air
Another drone that you have to consider is the DJI Mavic Air. This is one of the best drones that you can buy at this point in time and its functionality will make you fall in love with it at first sight.
The Mavic Air is one of the cheaper models in the Mavic series. It’s also one of the most portable DJI drones on the market. It comes with a 3-axis gimbal camera that can track and record footage from virtually any position. On top of that, you can stitch up to 25 photos in order to create ultra-realistic 32 MP Sphere panoramas. You can then view these photos with DJI Goggles in a true ultra-realistic fashion. Trust us, the feeling is much better than you would think!
This camera can also record some truly outstanding videos. All of them are recorded in full 4K resolution and with 30 fps. As the recording itself is done with 100 Mbps, you can be sure that no frames will be lost in the process.
You won’t have any issues operating this drone at all. The controls are very flexible and the unit is easy to manoeuvre. The risk of accidents is (once again) minimal and there isn’t a steep learning curve. You don’t need to have any previous experience in order to handle this drone which is another huge plus for the Mavic Air.
The Mavic Air is one of the coolest drones in the marketplace and definitely, one of the best DJI has to offer. With its advanced technology, it is great for both beginners and the more experienced drone pilots.
#4. DJI Phantom Pro 3
As DJI keeps pumping out new awesome drones, we sometimes forget about the drones that really made them into a household name and one of those is the DJI Phantom 3 Pro. It may be a few years old but it is still one of the best consumer drones on the market.
The DJI Phantom Pro 3 is a perfect drone for both experienced enthusiasts and newcomers alike. With a highly universal approach and truly flexible design, Phantom Pro 3 is a drone for everyone!
The drone comes with a Wi-Fi video transmission system. This system allows you to fly much farther than with regular drones while retaining the perfect visibility along the way. The controls are very flexible and the image transmission can go up to 4 km, so all you really need to do is focus on getting the best shots!
The drone is extremely easy to use. By using Intelligent Flight Modes, you can fly like a pro even if you’ve never controlled a drone before. And, with the DJI GO app, you can make some truly breathtaking shots with a single tap of a button. As you’ve already learned, any risk of accidents is very minimal, so you can enjoy your drone in a true stress-free fashion.
Like I said it may be a few years old but it still flys amazing and comes with some fantastic features.
#5. DJI Phantom Pro 4
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro remains a game-changer in the world of drones, its only rivals are the others drones in the Phantom 4 range and in my view there is not another drone outside the DJ brand that is its equal.
The first thing you will notice about this drone is that it’s much quieter compared to others. Why is that the case? Well, this drone has fully aerodynamic 9455S propellers as well as brand new FOC ESC drivers that provide outstanding noise control. At the same time, both of these features provide superb stability, so you won’t need to worry that the drone might crash into random objects due to its poor design.
The remote control comes with the latest OcuSync Video Transmission that allows you to send and receive video signals at the same time. As soon as you power up the controller, the system will scan for the frequency with the lowest interference. That way, you can easily establish a connection that will allow your drone to roam around without any interference.
As the connection doesn’t consume too many resources, you won’t notice any video lags in your recordings. Moreover, the quality of your connection will be stable even at huge distances so, practically, your flight adventures will be limitless!
