The Deerc D50 is a cheap FPV drone that comes with a 1080p camera that has a wide-angle lens and can capture half decent videos and photos (especially for its price). It’s a nice looking drone that can be fitted with landing legs and propeller guards for safer flying and it comes with several fun features like voice and gesture control, multiple speed modes, trajectory flight mode and is compatible with a VR headset. It has a flight time of around 12 minutes and a control range of 80 meters

Key Features

  • HD camera
  • FPV capability
  • Bright LED lights for night-time flying
  • 12 minutes of flight time
  • 80-meter transmission range
  • One-button take-off/landing
  • 360° flips

Hi and welcome to my review of the Deerc D50 FPV drone.

This is a cheap non-GPS drone that is suitable for beginners, especially those looking to learn how to operate a drone.

It’s a very popular drone on Amazon with a 4* star rating and it costs less than $100.

Despite being a cheap drone, the Deerc D50 does come with some fun features I that includes a decent HD camera, hands-free flight modes and FPV capability.

However, there are a lot of good drones for under $100, so if the Deerc D50 does not impress you, check out my article for the best drones under $100.

Deerc D50 Drone Review

This is a nice looking drone, it is made from ABS plastic and has a solid overall structure. It has a nice colour scheme and has bright LED lights underneath each rotor arm and one on the front. These lights will help you fly the drone at night and also help indicate when the drone’s compass has been fully calibrated.

With the drone package, you get a set of propeller guards, which will come in handy if you are completely new to piloting a drone. It’s most likely that you may crash into things and the guards will help minimise any damage.

The Deerc D50 is not a very big drone, although, it does come with landing legs which if you install does increase its height. It’s not a very heavy drone as well, however, it does weigh more than 250g, which means that if you live in the UK, USA or Canada, you will need to register it with your local aviation authority.

The drone is powered by a 3.7v 1500 mAh lithium polymer battery, this provides the drone with around 12 minutes of flight time. This is a good time for a cheap drone and the good thing is you get an extra battery with the drone package. This will allow you to extend the flight time without having to wait for the battery to recharge which takes around 90 minutes.

The remote controller has a minimalist look, it has a curved design and is comfortable to hold, the drone is powered by 4 AA batteries, unfortunately, these do not come with the package, so you will need to purchase some yourself. All of the controls are clearly labelled, so you know what they do and it has an LCD screen in the middle that displays telemetry data about the drone.

There is a separate smartphone attachment that you can clip on the back of the controller, you can attach a large phone but not a tablet. As I mentioned earlier, the drone comes with FPV feature and to use this feature you will need to download the Deerc FPV app which available for both Android and iOS devices.

It’s a decent app and it gives you access to a lot more of the drone’s features, you can even use it to fly the drone. There are some complaints about this app, however, I have noticed that most issues people face are usually rectified when they go back and follow the instruction manual.

Deerc D50 – Features

The Deerc D50 is advertised as having a 2K camera, this is misleading, it has a 1080p camera that has 120° FOV and can be manually adjusted up or to get better angles for your video/photos. As there is no micro SD card slot, all your files will be recorded on your phone, so make sure to have enough memory space for this. The quality of the videos and photos are alright and what you would expect from a drone of this price. The FPV is not the best, although still decent for the price. A decent overall camera, however, there are better options at similar price points and my favourite is the DJI/Ryzetech Tello drone, which comes with a lot more features and a superior camera.

The drone comes with several other features that will allow you to have more fun flying it, these features include voice control and gesture control. With voice control, you can tell the drone to take-off or land and with gesture control, you can take videos and photos through hand gesture. However, these features are a hit and miss, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.

Other features include gravity control where you can fly the drone by moving your smartphone around and a hands-free flight mode called trajectory mode. In this flight mode, you will be able to draw a small flight path on the app and the drone will automatically fly along that route. It’s a bit gimmicky as the drone cannot fly far, but people may still find it fun to fly with.

The drone comes with 4-speed modes, this will allow you to test your flying skills as you get more experienced.

You can fly the drone with a VR headset, although as this is a toy drone, it will not be very exciting as it cannot fly far, however, it’s still a decent feature and kids may enjoy the drone with a VR headset.

Flight Performance

This is a toy drone and so it is relatively easy to operate, its hovering capability is not so good, so make sure not fly in any kind of windy conditions as it will be harder to control. Most of the features work, however, the FPV feed sometimes breaks up and the voice/gesture control modes do not always work properly. If you fly it at night, the LED lights make for a really nice spectacle, although, I advise you to fly at night if you are an experienced drone pilot.

Final Thoughts

This is a decent overall cheap drone, its suitable for everyone, even kids will find it easy to operate. It comes with some fun features and for under $100, it’s worth the price. However, I personally thin the DJI/Ryzetch Tello drone is the best drone in this price range, so if you want a better alternative, check the Tello drone.
