Hi and welcome to my review of the Drocon Ninja drone, a funky looking foldable drone that is suitable for both beginners and kids.

Drones are so much fun to fly, they have grown in popularity in recent years and the good thing is there are a lot of choices when it comes to choosing your first drone.

The majority of my drone reviews are done with beginners in mind and the Drocon Ninja is one of the most highly rated beginner-friendly drones on Amazon having over 700 reviews and a 4-star rating.

If you are looking for a cheap camera drone with some cool features, the Drocon Ninja is a good choice.

Drocon Ninja Drone Review

One of the cool things about cheap drones like the Drocon Ninja is that there are not a lot of features and that is a good thing because most people looking to buy a drone for kids or even themselves just want something to have some fun with.

The Drocon Ninja will certainly give you a lot of fun flying it, it’s a well-built drone with a foldable design (my favourite type) and the main body is all blue.

Drocon Ninja Drone Review

It’s a lightweight drone and is great to fly both indoors and outdoors, however, as it is very lightweight, make sure to never fly it in windy conditions, although, even if you do manage to crash the drone, it does come with propeller guards that will minimise any damage that may occur.

In its fully expanded form, it measures just 4.3*4.3*0.98 inches including the propeller guards and is very compact when folded up making it easier to travel with.

The drone has an HD camera at its front and is powered by a small 7.4v 450 mAh lipo battery. This battery will provide the drone with a flight time of around 7 minutes, which isn’t much, but this is a toy drone and they usually have short flight times. You only get one battery with the package, so if you want to extend the flight time, its best to purchase a couple of extra batteries along with the drone.

One of the best features of this drone is its remote controller, which is nicely designed despite being a very cheap drone. It looks like a video games controller and has a minimalist design since the drone does not come with many features, this is reflected in the number of buttons on the controller. There is a separate smartphone holder that you can attach on the back to make use of the FPV features of the drone and it takes 4 AAA batteries which, unfortunately, are not included with the package.

The transmission range for the drone is around 80 meters and around 40-50 meters if you use the FPV feature.

You can also control the drone via the official app, which is compatible with both Android and iOs smartphones. It has a nice user interface and is very easy to use plus you get a few more features that you can play around with.

Drocon Ninja Camera

One of the best features of this drone (of any drone really) is its camera.

Now, don’t get me wrong, you will not be taking stunning aerial photography with it, but it isn’t built for that reason. The camera is there just for fun, it takes decent images and videos and it will provide a great way to have some fun while flying the drone.

The camera can record in 720p, although as the drone has no micro SD card slot, you will need to record on your smartphone, so make sure you have enough memory for this. You can also manually adjust the camera 90° to get better viewing angles, although it would have been more convenient if you could do this via the remote controller. Then again, this is a drone that costs less than $100, so there is only so much you can ask for. Overall it’s a nice camera with a very acceptable quality considering the price it sells for.

Other Features

Drocon Ninja Drone Review

It’s a toy drone, so it does not come with many features but there are a few that will help you fly the drone more easily, these features include the following;

Headless Mode – Most drones come with this feature, the headless mode makes it easier to fly the drone as the controls are straight forward because you will not need to know where the head or tail of the drone is.

Gravity Sensor Mode – A cool feature that will impress your family and friends, this only works with the smartphone and app. You can control the drone by moving your smartphone around.

3D Flips – Another cool feature, you can make to drone do 360° flips at the push of a button.

One Key Take-off and Landing – Pretty self-explanatory, just push the button on the middle of the controller and the drone will take-off and land with little effort.

Altitude Hold – The drone will maintain a steady altitude and hover accurately allowing you to take better images and videos.

Final Thoughts

The drone is easy to fly and zips around pretty fast for a toy drone, if you are beginner, you will most likely crash a few times, fortunately that’s why the propeller guards are there for. This is a fun drone to fly with a cool camera and some nifty features, everyone will enjoy flying this drone but its best suited for complete beginners.
