Eachine E61 Review – Cheap Toy Drone Perfect For Beginners And Kids

Hi and welcome to my review of the Eachine E61 drone.

Eachine are a well-known brand in the world of low-cost consumer drones. They have released some fantastic drones over the years, many of which I have reviewed on my blog.

If you are a complete beginner to flying a drone, you should think about purchasing a very cheap drone to hone your flying skills before moving on to something a little more expensive.

Fortunately, there are a ton of cheap drones on the market and one of those drones is the Eachine E61 and in this review, you will see why it’s perfect for complete beginners.

Eachine E61 Review

The Eachine E61 is a very small drone, it can actually be classed as a mini drone as it measures 11*11*3 cm and fits easily in the palm of your hands. It comes in four colours, black, blue, red and white, although I personally prefer the black.

It comes with brushed motors as you would expect from such a cheap drone and it comes with propeller guards already fixed on. This is perfect for indoor flying as it will not cause the drone any serious damage you crash it into things.

I should also mention that this drone is very light, it weighs just under 30g, which means there is no need to register the drone if you live in the UK, Canada or the USA. All other countries do not have a weight limit for drones, if you want to fly them for recreational purposes, still just check to make sure you know the local rules and regulations just to be on the safe side.

Like most drones, the Eachine E61 has a pair of LED lights on the front that look like small searchlights. These not only look cool but are also useful if you want to fly the drone at night which makes for a fantastic spectacle.

The drone is powered by a small 3.7v 250 mAh lipo battery that fits on the underside of the drone. Seeing that this is a toy drone, it only has a flight time of around 8 minutes. It’s not much, but for a drone that costs less than $50, it’s pretty much what you should expect.

To extend the flight time, I would advise you to purchase a couple of extra batteries, fortunately, you do get the option to buy the drone with two or three batteries which I highly recommend you take.

The remote controller is small just like the drone, although not too small that it feels uncomfortable in your hands. It’s a decent looking controller, nothing to write home about, the buttons do not have any icons so you will have to look at the instruction manual to find out what they do. It does have a headless mode which is the default mode and perfect for beginners. There is a separate smartphone that you attach to the back of the drone and it takes 3 AAA batteries which are not included, so please do remember that if you decide to purchase this drone.

You can also control the drone via the official app which is called the Eachine FPV and is available on both Google Play and Apple App Store. The app is pretty easy to use and gives you a few more features to play around with.

Eachine E61 Camera

Even though this is a toy drone and costs less than $50, it comes with a standard 480p camera which will allow you to stream live video footage straight to your smartphone. It’s a simple camera that is fixed onto the nose of the drone and has a small lens. Its nothing amazing but you can have a bit of fun with it and the quality is decent considering what it costs.

Other Features

The Eachine E61 comes with some added features that will make it easier and more fun to fly. These features include the following;

Altitude Hold – Maintains a steady altitude during flight

Headless Mode – makes the drone easier to control as you don’t have to differentiate between the head or tail.

3D Flips – Do 360° flips at the push of a button, this feature will impress family and friends, especially kids.

One-Key Take-off and Landing

3 Speed Modes – You can test your flying skills by switching between different speed modes.

Flight Performance

There is nothing much to say here except that for a toy drone is flies well and all its main features work as they should. The FPV quality is decent and the drone is quite nifty in its top speed mode. I would not fly this drone in any kind of windy conditions, being such a light drone it would be hard to control. Other than that it is a fun drone to fly.
