Holy Stone are a well-established name when it comes to low-cost high-quality consumer drones. Some of the most popular drones on Amazon are sold by Holy Stone, I have reviewed many of their drones on my blog, one of my favourites being the HS720, which is one of their more high-end drones.
However, the Holy Stone HS370 is a simple drone that is great for beginners and costs less than $50, so if you are looking for a cool gift idea or just want to learn how to fly a drone, keep reading this review of the Holy Stone HS370 because it may what you are searching for.
Holy Stone HS370 Review
Holy Stone are right up there with the best when it comes to choosing a budget-friendly drone to have some fun with. The Holy Stone HS370 is one such drone, it is one of their newer beginner-friendly drones and has become very popular due to its low cost and fun features.
It’s a small drone measuring only 7*7*1.4 inches and easily fits in the palm of your hands and weighs less than 50g, so if you live in the UK, Canada or the USA you will not need to register the drone. You will only need to register the drones in the countries if the drone weighs more than 250g, for all other countries there is no specific weight limit if all you want to do is fly for recreational purposes. However, please still check the rules and regulations wherever you live just to be safe.
The drone has a nice black and red colour scheme and comes with brushed motors and propellers already installed. There are some propeller guards you get with the package which I highly recommend you use as it will protect the drone from any serious damage should you crash it, which you most probably will if you are completely new to drones.
The drone is powered by a 7.4v 880 mAh lipo battery which fits in neatly into the back of the drone. These are the new modular batteries that provide a good flight time for toy drones, in the case of the Holy Stone HS370, you get a flight time of around 10 minutes. For a drone that costs less than $50, this is a decent flight time plus you get an extra battery so you will not have to wait for the battery to recharge to continue flying the drone.
The drone’s remote controller is one of the best-looking controllers I have seen for a toy drone. It reminds me of a video games controller, its well-designed and feels comfortable to hold. The buttons are easily identified and there is a separate smartphone holder that you can attach on the back. The controller takes 2 AA batteries which are not included with the drone package, so remember to purchase some if you do decide to buy this drone.
You can also control the drone via its official app, which is available on both Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. It’s a decent overall app that is easy to use and has a nice user interface. You get a few more features if you use the app to control the drone rather than the controller. It has its issues like the FPV sometimes breaks, but this is not a major issue.
Holy Stone HS370 Camera
Despite being a cheap toy drone, the Holy Stone HS370 comes with a decent 720p HD camera. Now, obviously you will not be wowing anyone with this camera, but you can still have a lot of fun with it. You can even live stream video footage straight to your smartphone which is always awesome even if the quality is not of the highest standard. Cheap toy drones are not purchased for their camera quality, they usually purchased to have some fun and to learn how to fly a drone, the camera is just an added extra feature so that you can enjoy flying the drone in different ways.
Amazingly the drone comes with some cool features that will enhance your flying experience, these features include the following:
Altitude Hold – Keeps the drone at a steady altitude which will allow you to fly the drone more easily and take better quality images.
Headless Mode – This is the default mode for all beginner-friendly drones, the controls are easier to understand as you do not need to know where the head or the tail of the drone is.
Gesture Mode – This mode will allow you to take some cool selfies photos with the mere gesture of your hand. A cool feature that will impress your friends.
Gravity Sensor Mode – Control the drone by moving your smartphone in any direction and the drone will follow the same way.
3D Flips – The drone will do 360° flips at the push of a button.
One-Key Take-Off – Press a button on the controller and the drone will take-off automatically, there is also a landing button for this purpose.
3 Speed Modes – It has different speed modes that you can switch between when you more confident in flying the drone.
It’s a toy drone, so it’s pretty easy to operate, its best to fly these types of drones indoors but if you want to fly outdoors, make sure there is no wind, as it is a very light drone. It has a short transmission range and the FPV quality is what you would expect from a drone that costs less than $50.
This is a cool drone to have some fun with, its suitable for beginners and kids and comes with some cool features. If you are looking for a cheap camera drone, the Holy Stone HS370 is a good choice. Click on the button below for more information and its current price.
