There have been independent studies that have revealed the positive impact Zipline has had on the healthcare system in Rwanda. 

A Lancet report highlighted that Zipline’s drone technology has improved blood product delivery in Rwanda, with 12,733 successful deliveries between March 2017 and December 2019. The average delivery time was 49.6 minutes, significantly faster than ground transportation. The use of drones also led to a 67% reduction in blood unit expirations within 12 months, decreasing by 7.1 units per month.

A Wharton study revealed that Ziplne drone delivery services have significantly benefited blood transfusion facilities in Rwanda. After adopting drone delivery, these facilities experienced a 62% decrease in on-hand inventory, a 42% reduction in destroyed or damaged units, and an 11-unit drop in blood stock per facility. Although there was a slight increase in monthly blood unit usage, no significant change was observed in the number of units received. The study indicates that drone delivery can improve inventory management and health outcomes for transfusion facilities in Rwanda by reducing lead times and lead time variability.
