  • 4k still images
  • Dual GPS
  • Smart flight modes
  • Automatic return home
  • 31 minutes of flight time

Hi and welcome to my review of the Potensic Dreamer 4k drone.

Potensic are a well-known brand for their low-cost consumer drone range, I have reviewed most of their drones on my blog and my personal favourite is the T25.

They are also a very popular drone brand, having some of the best customer ratings on Amazon for many of their more expensive drones.

The Potensic Dreamer 4K is their latest and most advanced drone, it comes with some amazing features and a very good HD camera.

However, as much as I like this new drone from Potensic, I personally think it is a little too expensive for what it offers and there are better options for you.

Still, it is a great drone and by the end of this review, you may still want to purchase the drone despite its price tag.

Potensic Dreamer 4K Review

So, if you are a drone enthusiast, you will love the look of this drone, it looks and feels like a premium model and I guess that is exactly the look Potensic are going for.

It’s a drone that reminds me a little of the Xiaomi Mi drone, it’s not a huge drone but you will need a drone carry case to travel around with it. Unlike some of the other Potensic drone models, the Dreamer 4k does not come with a carry case of its own, so I highly suggest if you purchase this drone, to also purchase a suitable carry case so that travelling with the drone will be more convenient.

It’s built from high-quality plastic which feels very durable so it will not be easily damaged should crash it now and then. It has an all-white colour scheme and its main body is shaped like a capsule which does look good.

It is a heavy drone (another reason you should get a drone carry case), it weighs around 760g including the large intelligent battery it is powered by.

This weight is significant, especially if you live in the UK, Canada or the USA as it means you will need to register the drone, even if you plan on just flying for fun.

For most other countries, there is no requirement for you to register a drone regardless of its weight if you just want to fly for recreational purposes. However, please still check what the rules are wherever you live just to make sure.

It has a pair of sturdy landing legs that will help protect the camera when the drone comes down to land. Talking of the camera, it is an HD camera but it cannot take 4k videos and it does not come with any kind of gimbal, I thought I will just mention this because people may think it comes with a camera that will allow you to take professional-level videos and images.

One of the advanced features it comes with is its powerful brushless motors that are more efficient and last longer than brushed motors. These motors also allow the drone to fly faster and the case of the Potensic Dreamer 4k, it has a top speed of around 28 km/h.

Underneath each rotor arms are big LED lights, these lights are pretty much standard on all drones now. They do serve a couple of purposes, the lights indicate when the drone compass has been fully calibrated and also flash in certain ways when the drone is in different flight modes.

The drone comes with dual GPS for superior flight stability and more accurate positioning on the app, this will allow you to always track the drone and minimise the risk of losing it. The dual GPS also allows for the drones several smart flight modes and its automatic return to home feature.

The drone is powered by an intelligent LiPo battery that gives it a flight time of around 31 minutes, this is the official time, so expect some a little less, however, even 28 minutes of flight time is very good for a drone at its price range.

The battery takes around 2 hours to fully recharge, so I would advise you to purchase one more battery if you want to extend the flight time without having to wait for the battery to recharge.

The remote controller is one of the best features of this drone, its charged by an internal LiPo battery, so there is no need for you to purchase any extra batteries which is always good.

The controller actually looks very similar to that of the Xiaomi FIMI X8 SE drone, it has an empty area in the middle where you insert your smartphone and you can extend it for larger size smartphones.

It has a range of around 800 meters, which is good and it is slightly less if you are streaming live video feed to your smartphone.

The controller comes with all the standard buttons you would expect, it has two dials on the top to control the cameras viewing angles and adjust its brightness levels. There are a couple of buttons on the back to take videos and photos and has a button automatic return home.

To make use of the drones FPV features you will need to download the official app which is called the Potensic Pro and is available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

This is a new app from Potensic and has been developed specifically for the Dreamer 4k drone. It’s a nice app and has an easy to use interface, it works best with the latest version of either the iOS or Android OS.

It’s via the app you get access to the drones FPV features and smart flight modes, one thing I must add is that because this is a new app, it may be a little buggy and you may need to restart the app a few times before it starts working properly. Hopefully, they sort this issue out soon because it is a very good app.

Potensic Dreamer 4K Camera

potensic dreamer 4k review

My favourite feature of any drone is its camera, especially if it’s a high-end camera where you will be able to take some high-quality videos and photos.

Now, just to be clear, the Potensic Dreamer 4k does not come with a professional-level camera, despite what it may suggest on the product page, this camera cannot record video footage in 4k.

It can record in 2.7k at 30fps which is still pretty good, the video footage is good quality, although you will notice a bit of distortion like jello effect and shakiness. This is mainly because it does not come with a gimbal or any kind of electronic stabilisation feature.

However, there are some vibration dampeners in the form of small balls that are attached above the camera, these will reduce any sort of distortion, although, it will not completely eliminate it.

The camera comes equipped with a Sony image sensor that will allow you to shoot still images in 4k. The camera has a wide-angle lens and it can be remotely adjusted 90° to get the viewing angle you want.

There is a micro SD card slot on the back of the camera, it takes memory cards of class 10 or better and the maximum capacity it can take is 128gb. To get the best video and image resolution of the camera, you will need to record it on the memory card because if you record it over WiFi on your smartphone, it will be with a lower quality resolution.

Unfortunately, you do not get a memory card with the drone package, so please remember to purchase one if you do decide to buy this drone.

Live video streaming is transmitted in 720p and if you fly in a good clear day, the quality is good and there is little interference.

I am impressed by this camera, it takes some really good videos and images, although it would have been more impressive if it came with an advanced stabilisation feature.

This is definitely one of the best drones under $300 on Amazon, however, for a similar price you can get the Hubsan Zino which comes with a superior camera, a 3-axis gimbal and a superior drone app. However, it’s only available at this price range from Banggood and the main issue you will face is long delivery time.

Intelligent Flight Modes

As you would expect from an advanced consumer drone, the Potensic Dreamer 4k comes with a few intelligent flight modes that will allow you to fly the drone hands-free. You still have control over the camera which will allow you to concentrate on shooting better videos and photos.

These intelligent flight modes include the following:

Follow me – Pretty self-explanatory, in this flight mode, the drone will lock onto your smartphone and follow you from behind.

Orbit mode – In this mode, you will be able to lock the drone on a point of interest and it will orbit that position autonomously.

Waypoint – With this smart mode, you draw a flight path on the app and the drone will fly along the route automatically and come back home.

Automatic return to home – You can activate this feature manually via the remote controller or the app. The feature will be activated automatically if you lose connection with the drone or if the battery gets too low on charge.

Be careful flying with these flight modes though, as the drone does not come with an obstacle avoidance system, so make sure to only use them in a clear area.

Flight Performance

Initial flight tests have shown the drone to fly as advertised, as it comes with headless mode as its default setting and along with the GPS assistance, it is a fairly easy drone to operate. It has smooth hovering capability ad with its powerful brushless motors, it can even hold up well in windy conditions. Although, I would advise you to only fly in any kind of harsh weather conditions if you are an experienced drone pilot. Flight time is close to what is advertised on the box which is good and the smart flight modes work well if you fly the drone where the GPS signal is very strong.

Final Thoughts

This is a very good drone from Potensic, they are clearly looking to move into selling more advanced drones and compete with the likes of the Hubsan Zino and Xiaomi X8SE. Although the Dreamer 4k drone is not as technologically advanced as the drones I mentioned, it’s still a good drone and hopefully, with future updates, they improve the camera and add a gimbal.
